Double Diamond Model
To ensure we create the most effective designs for you, we can implement a proven process called the “Double Diamond.” This model helps us make sure we’re not just creating something that looks good, but that also solves the right problem for your audience.
The Milestones
PS (Problem Statement): This is our starting point. It’s the initial challenge or goal you bring to us, like “We need a new brand logo” or “Our website isn’t getting conversions.”
UI (User Insights): This is the crucial halfway point. After researching the real problem, we gather insights about your customers or audience. What do they need? What do they prefer? This ensures the design decisions we make are based on real-world data, not just assumptions.
US (User Centered Solution): This is the final, polished design we deliver to you. It’s called “User Centered” because every step we took was focused on making sure it works perfectly for the people who will actually be seeing and using it.
The Process
The process is broken into two main parts, or “diamonds.” Each diamond has two stages: one for “going wide” (exploring ideas) and one for “narrowing down” (making decisions).
Diamond 1: Finding the Right Problem
The goal of this first diamond is to make sure we are solving the correct challenge.
Identify: In this step, we “go wide.” We won’t jump at the first, most obvious solution. Instead, we’ll do our homework. We’ll research your market, look at competitors, and brainstorm all the possible angles of the problem.
Define: Here, we “narrow down.” We take all that research and define the specific, core problem we need to solve. For example, the initial Problem Statement (PS) might be “design a new flyer,” but our research might show the real problem is “the brand’s message is unclear.” We’ll define that as our true goal.
Diamond 2: Designing the Right Solution
Now that we have a clear problem defined by User Insights (UI), we can design the solution.
Prototype: We “go wide” again. Instead of just giving you one option, we will create several different design concepts, sketches, or mockups (prototypes). This lets us explore different creative directions to find the best fit.
Iterate & Test: Finally, we “narrow down” to the finished product.
Test: We show these prototypes to you and, in some cases, to a sample of your audience to get feedback. What do they like? What’s confusing?
Iterate: We use that feedback to refine and improve the best design. We repeat this test-and-refine cycle until the design is polished and effective.
